Retaining Independence in the Face of Deaf-Blindness

A special program for women with deaf-blindness, Retaining Independence is a long-term support group that combines personal empowerment with practical and emotional assistance. The program concentrates on helping participants improve life skills in all areas, from relating to their husbands and preventing dependence on their children to developing work skills. Retaining Independence encompasses in-depth career assessment, a personalized study program and assistance in job placement, as well as therapy through psychodrama – an extremely effective approach for deaf-blind individuals. Several all-day leisure trips over the course of the year provide the women and their families with the rare opportunity to enjoy quality time together in an environment that is comfortable and suited to their needs.
